Hello, I have an old c500 y55. I bought it used a few years back. It ran fine when I got it. But slowly it got harder and harder to start. It sat for about a year, when I finally got around to trying to get it started. The previous owner had done some squirrely wiring, so I've been trying to slowly rewire everything, starting with the basics. I've replaces the ignition, plugs, distributor cap, rotor. And I still can't get a spark from the coil to the distributor. I started to look at the neutral safety switch, the wires were all cracked and barley holding together. I cut both ends, and wired them together, to by pass and still nothing, no spark. As I rewire this forklift, where are the other ends of the neutral safety switch supposed to go? A google search said one to the ignition post on the ignition and on to the starter. This didn't work. Any help would be most appreciated. Thank you.

Neutral safety has nothing to do with spark
First check voltage at coil positive side with key on if voltage , remove distributor cap and open and close points with a screwdriver if no spark check for grounded wire from coil to points ie
Where the wire goes into distributor
Then make sure distributor is grounded to engine also remove points take sandpaper and sand where points mount to make sure they ground to dist
Then get an igniter kit and do away with points
As far as the neutral safety switch, the wire runs from the start terminal on the ignition switch to the safety switch then down to the starter solenoid. As far as spark, I would bypass everything to check and run a wire from battery positive to the positive side of ignition coil. Then crank the engine to check for spark. If still no spark, you either have a wire grounding out at the distributor, a bad capacitor or points aren't adjusted right. And there's always the coil could be defective. Good luck
