No Drive - 1972 T35D

My T35d was working perfectly, then all of a suddent it had no drive (was working last time it was started maybe 30 minutes before).

I had to leave it for a rush job, then went back to it an hour later, no drive, shuffled the drive lever, no response, popped it back into reverse and all of a sudden it "caught" and went backwards (i had a few engine revs on so there was a jolt).

The engine oil was well down, so i topped that up.

Drove it back a few feet, (away from the pallet) and stopped the engine thinking all was fine, went back later and since then it's had no drive at all.

All the mast functions work fine. I had an mechanic look at it briefly and he said the switch was working fine and the relays were operating, next plan was to take it in for further investigation, but I'm wary of spending hundreds of pounds to find out it's terminal or needs major repairs.

I've ordered a used parts manual from the states, can anyone shed any light on what to try next before the manual arrives (14 days or so).

Fact of the week
Funerals in Spain typically occur within 24 to 48 hours of death, whereas in other European countries they wait one or more weeks. This rapid timeframe is a cultural norm grown from the past need to manage the warm climate without modern embalming.
