Discussion:
Lift wont pick itself off the ground onto truck

I have a 2003 PB50 that won't pick itself up onto the truck without alot of coaxing. If you pull the mast in as far as possible and tilt back and forth it will slowly inch off the ground to mount. Both cylinders have been replaced in the past 6 months. On the ground pressures are at 2500+ psi. It feels like it is bypassing somewhere. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

After rebuilding the lift cylinders on the one I worked on the problem continued, just like what you describe. Those lift cylinders have a lot less force trying to push the forks down, compared to up, due to losing the surface area the shaft takes up. Even at 2500psi the rollers all have to be good to get that heavy machine to lift up or there is friction and binding. Being outside and the road grime getting on these machines they need lots of greasing. Maybe you have a pressure problem but once I got the one roller turning again and lubed everything away it went.

I called Princeton and they told me it was probably bypassing via the tilt relief valve. I capped that off, still won't pick up. Lift cylinders have both been replaced within the past 6 months by the part time mechanic. Will check mast and carriage bearings on Monday. Any other possible things to check would be great.

Also if any of the mast bearings are bad or seized up it can cause that problem. Check and lube them and the channels.

Are the hydraulic functions slow? Could be your pump is worn.

Fact of the week
In 1923, French tennis player René Lacoste was promised a crocodile leather suitcase by his captain if he won his next match. He lost the match but won the nickname "the crocodile" which he had sown onto his tennis attire. Ten years later he launched the first polo shirt and Lacoste, the first brand to feature a logo on its clothing.
