Bt Industries RRE160:
Help, local BT repair guys broke our truck...

had a RRE160 bust a mast tray bearing, called in the local registered BT service guys, they replaced it and its good again. However, now the altimeter doesn't give any readings and the lift speed is reduced if you try to go past the free lift portion of the triplex mast, also the transition between stages is horribly rough going up and down. SO, called them back and they 'checked it out' and they didn't know what the problem was so they took it away, brought it back a week later and said "oh it's supposed to have reduced lift speed at height" and your driver must have been dreaming about the lift speed (hes been driving it since new and has clocked up 7000h). I trust my driver, is there anything I can tell them to check out?

Well even without the serial number I now know it's a Reflex built between September 2004 & January 2009.

Does the truck have weight measurement option fitted? If it does is it still working?

I'd get your working truck alongside & pop the inspection covers of & investigate the X54 plug on that one.

X54 is linked in to the extra valve that speed's up the lowering in the freelift area & it's also linked in to the weight measurement function on the truck.

Y15 is listed as tilt up valve coil
Y16 is listed as spare 1A

So is it a Reflex that does has tilt but no sideshift fitted?

Hello, thanks for your suggestion, 301 stays solid and 302 flashes when past free-lift. I took the inspection cover off of the reach carriage, I found a cut/torn wire, I wired the two ends together which has solved the slow lift speed and the mast transitions on the way up, however the transitions on the way down are still rough and the altimeter display is still not functioning, there are three spare plugs currently (reach carriage) y15, y16 and x54.

y15 and 16 look to be the spares forkingabout spoke of, X54 has me a bit worried.

forgot to check on the serial number sorry forkingabout.

HI.

Check the 301 & 302 no LED on PCB Card blinking at the time of mast going up after free lift, There may be chance broken cable from Bearing encoder to Connector below battery tray.

Also check the magnetic sensor below the mast, your problem will solve.

Good luck.

The C016 fault should be cured be recalibrating the pedal's ( BT can key & parameter 38 )

You need to get the mast working correctly before looking in to the C013 fault - I get the feeling this fault will stop once the mast is working as it should.

Where the reach loom & mast loom's meet at the metal bracket inside the reach carriage is where I would have a look at the smaller of the connector plugs - even if you have to remove the covers of the working one you have just to compare.

From the fault description the A5 card isn't seeing the switch / switches at the top of the mast to tell it the fork's are now in the main lift area.

You got the truck serial number?

WOW, you really know your stuff, the guys here in NZ are hopeless. Yes your right it is the older model, the reflex RRE160M. We have two of them and they are fantastic machines. I will get the BT guys to come back in and investigate Monday.

I will keep this page updated.

Thanks much,

Mitchell

From the error codes we are not talking about an RRE but the older generation of Reflex.

C016 is a throttle pot fault.
C013 is a height measurement fault.

Remove the inspection covers in the reach carriage & check the smaller mutiplugs, there is normally a couple of spare plugs on the reach loom for extra functions & I have seen these plugged in to the mast loom by mistake & it does cause the very fault you describe.

The plugs are clearly numbered when the looms are manufactured.

it was a main bearing and im not sure how they pulled it off as they did this off-site (i do know that this did involve removing the whole mast assembly), unsure whether they plugged into it with a PDA or not. Yes, it is the local BT technicians. Altimeter cable is undamaged. C016 & C013 are the only codes that come up every now and then and apparently these were there before the bearing problem/repair. As for the bar at the bottom of the mast, did you mean the magnet switch thingy that catches the one on the end of the freelift pulley? if so it looks fine and the gap between the two is about 3/4inch, Im guessing that is what tells the brain that the mast is about to transition to the next stage?

just to be clear, the mast gets to 2.47m at full speed (almost max height of first stage) then the lift slows ready for transition between stages, transitions to second stage, then doesn't speed up again.

Regards,

Mitchell

Did they plug a laptop or pda in to the truck via the diagnostic socket in the roof?

How did they replace the bearing?

Was the complete mast & reach carriage pulled in to another RRE or was the mast lifted of the carriage then the carriage pulled out with a hand pallet truck?

Has the altimeter cable come of the roller on the counter?

Is the metal bar at the bottom right hand section of the mast bent?

Any caution symbols on CID or error code's showing on CID?

From the description something is either damaged or calibration is incorrectly set up on the truck.

Was this an official Toyota / BT dealer technician working on the truck?

As for the bearing, was it the adjustor bearing at the back of the carriage that failed or one of the large roller the carriage rolls on?
