Sign of the times Ben, not that its ever an excuse because ultimately it hurts someones pocket.
We did have tracking in the vans but with no one in the office to watch it in the early hours of the morning no problem to the thief. The thiefs did know exactly where the tracking boxes where mounted and ripped them right out and knew exactely where the antenas where mounted and ripped those out. Tools are insured but found out they are depreciated as the insurence company rates them as used tools so who know what I am gonna get for them. Dollar wise I did not have to much compared to some other techs. as I only bought what I needed to do the job and as a field tech. you really dont need much. I dont get out to Ontario at all and the only Rancho I have been to is Rancho Dominguez of the 405 freeway.
I would bet the farm that your tools are sitting on a spread-out blanket somewhere south of the border. I think I know you Ben, ran into you in Rancho and Ontario. Good luck with the insurance company.
Same here, trackers and alarms.
Ben, you wouldn't be the same guy who took care of ready pack for Cat would you?
sorry to hear your troubles mate. firm i work for has trackers fitted. last time vans got nicked they was back within a few hours. big brother is watchin and sometimes saves the day
Man, am I ever sorry to hear about the theft of your tools,
This is one of the spots I would think that GPS tracking units (like LoJack) would be a big sale point. I am surprised to hear of any Cat dealer that didn't already have tracking units. I also would think your tools are what they were really after, and that the forklift parts would mostly wind up in a dumpster somewhere. If I was your boss, I would also get someone to start watching Craig's list and e-bay for the parts.
