Discussion:
Hard starting

I have the said model unit it is very hard to start I am getting fuel to the rail and injectors but it doesn't seem to have much pressure to it I can however shoot a little bit of starting fluid to it and it will start and stay running. Any ideas.

Ok that is a good start. That would be a issue no doubt. it could be sucking air if its bad or if its equipped with a check valve it could be bad maybe. thank you for getting back with me. we will look into this. have a great day.

Yes I did it was in the primer pump behind the batteries
We replaced it and put a new filter on it bled out the system. Truck is running great now with no start issues.
Found out that this is a common problem with these trucks.

Did you get to the bottom of why this unit is hard to start. we have one that seems to have the same problem Tier 4 engine. Extremely hard to start , but when it does it runs absolutely fine. once you shut the engine off and let sit even for 10 seconds its back to a very long hard start. its acting like a check valve of some sort is not holding back pressure on the system. I'm trying to get some service info on this unit.

It sounds like the fuel is leaking off. I would start by checking the fuel lift pump. Not sure what it looks like on your truck. There is normally a check valve in the lift pump or in the hand pump if it has one.

Sounds like there is tar build up in system. May need to drain regulator and clean injectors.
