Discussion:
Field repair of the new crown RR drive units

My employer's fleet of Crown RR (5200 & 5700 series) are beginning to experience drive unit failures.
With cost cutting being the hot topic these days; Is there any way to field service the drive units?
I heard Crown (like Raymond also) Drive units are not "field" repairable-mainly because a large capacity press is required.
I know the axle seal can be replaced, are there any other in field repair options?

Is it worth getting hold of another drive unit so you have a spare & then finding a specalist that can overhaul them when one goes down faulty?

We used to do this with a fleet of 44 old BT Reflex reach trucks.

For us there wasnt much difference in price from getting the parts & then doing the overhaul on site against letting the specalist uplift it & overhaul it then return it back a few days later with a warranty.

The main issue is getting the bearings on / off without damaging them, if you have a suitable press it does make the job easy.
