Cat Lift Trucks (& Caterpillar) M35D:
Fault Code A

Hi guys,

Don't know if anyone can help, we are looking at a CAT M35D which operates fine under most circumstances, however if accelerated hard from a standing start will cut out drive and display fault code A. Hydraulic's and other systems work fine.

Does anyone know what fault code A relates to or can point us down the right route.

Service life of a forklift is proportional to how well it is maintained.

if an "A" is displayed on the dash this indicates a "Head Capacitor" Failure.
The Head Capacitor ensures that a steady voltage is maintained to the positive headsink and that large voltage spikes are filtered out. The logics monitors this at P2-2.
Performance of the truck will be reduced when this error is active.

Check the head capacitor for any abnormalities. swelling or bad connections or improper readings during testing.
Also make sure the battery is in good condition , a low battery can cause high amp draw and might cause strange problems.

There may be other things that might cause this issue but i'd start with these things first.

Fact of the week
Standardised crash test dummies appeared in the 1960s. Over time, crash test dummies better replicate the size and anatomy of a human and all its parts, as well as the range of motion of limbs and joints. Today's versions contain sensors to record damage and respond as humans do.
