Discussion:
Erratic Idle

This is my first post, and I want to say Hi, and that this site seems super informative, and I haven't read anything but respectful and insightful comments. Glad to be here!

I am working a 42-2fgc15 with a 5R engine that is giving me some fits. It is propane fueled and has had a myriad of problems with the fuel system. To start with the complaint was a no start condition. I found that the fuel lock was not shutting the fuel off and flooding the engine. (AFC123 electric lock) Ah, but wait! I realized that it alone should not cause the flooding condition.

The vap/reg were in sorry shape so I put a COBRA on it, as well as changed the air valve in the mixer. It will now start and run, but it doesn't like cold starts unless you depress the throttle. It still will die a few times before it will idle. Then it goes through a period of running well, but once up to temp, at idle, the engine will stumble and sometimes it will die. When it begins to stumble, I can jab at the throttle and it will run decent for say 45-90sec and the problem reoccurs.

Any thoughts? I can honestly the ignition system looks like ****. Mis-matched plug wires, the points don't look so hot, and the cap and rotor have seen better days as well.
