Discussion:
Duelling Dealerships

Does anyone (in the US) have anything positive to say about manufacturers who have more than one dealership representing them in the same city? I see one brand doing this now and both dealers are battling to retain their share of the business; if anyone is winning it would be the end users: "Place number one can sell me the same starter for such and such, can you beat that??" Please tell me this is not a new trend we are seeing that will pattern lift truck dealerships after automobile dealerships. Please....life is hard enough without this!

the manufactures are forcing to many Dealers into local conflict.

they are trying to force down the prices of the trucks by giving more dealers access to their equipment so they can force down the prices and allow them to make money out of the spares department. The selling price is now not as important as the on going spares sales. The only people that are losing out are the dealers who are seeing the territory getting smaller with more competitors sell the same equipment. The manufactures will still charge the same price to the dealer so they are happy. Dealers seem to be dispensable and many are willing to take on a manufacture who has a local dealer to try to undercut and get the business

Manufactures are going to have to be more responsible when making choices with dealers and stop giving away to much territory because they will force some out of business

"it's not rocket surgery"
I have had that nightmare as well. I could never live out that life----eating out of a bag of fast food for lunch so you won't miss that next mark walking in to buy a new unit...feeling like Herb Tarlick!

You may as well get used to it.

Since about the mid 80's this whole industry could be used as an example of how not to do business.

One would need to be mad to risk investing any serious money in it until people start to come to their senses.

God only knows when that will be !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There is nothing positive that can come out of it.
That was (or is) TCM's business philosophy. It seems like they had about 5 different dealers covering the Philadelphia area at one time.
