Discussion:
Drive tire

Is there an adjustment for the undercarriage weldment or something somewhere that im missing or have forgotten about that will give enough room to install a new full size drive tire between the frame and drive unit? The current 13-1/2 x 5-1/2 x 8'' rubber compound tire that's on the lift now is worn down and to soft for this particular application. The rubber flexes and the sidewall rolls under on itself when changing direction of travel or cornering especially after heating up. I pressed a new 13-1/2 x 5-1/2 x 8'' hard poly tire on an identical spare hub to replace the worn down 13-1/2 x 5-1/2 x 8'' soft rubber thinking it would slide right under the lift with no issue but turns out the full sized 13-1/2 x 5-1/2 x 8'' tire is by far to tall to fit between the frame and drive unit and positioned to slide over the studs, at least for the way its set now. I dont know if my old a$$ is starting to really slow down in these later years and my mind has completely gone out to lunch on this one or if im just drawing a total blank or what but hey, **** happens. lol Ive Worked quite a few years for one of the main Hyster/Yale dealers on the east coast and am fairly familiar with these model lifts, or so I thought, but I cant for the life of me recall ever having this issue or ever having the need to make such adjustments. That being said, I dont even see where on the lift I would make such adjustments. I know you can make some changes to the floor pan and undercarriage pivot stops as well as adjustments to certain caster wheels as things wear out to keep the lift planted and level but never like this. I even called into the dealer with the model and had them check the build spec and confirm the size tire the called for and have the correct side, also explained the issue at hand but guy I talked to didnt have much to offer in terms of knowledge or advise. If anyone has any info or useful input, it will be greatly appreciated.

Thank for you time in advance.

oldhead,

Without a serial number not able to verify size of drive tire. If you installed the correct size, the tire must be pressed on exactly as it came off. The wheel is set into the tire about 1 inch. The drive unit will need to be set at the correct angle to get the new tire installed. It can be aggravating. Since the tire wheel combo weighs enough to make it hard to handle. There is no adjustment that can be made. Good Luck.

The hard to do we do right away. The impossible just takes a little longer.
