Discussion:
Code 83

I am working on a CAT NOR30 SN: 2ML-02611. When you turn the key on, we get the message "Lift emergency switch turn key off/on code 83". We have since replaced the emergency switch but the problem is still there. I am trying to figure out what our next options are. I have heard that the code is a vague one, not really specific to try and narrow the search for issues. Any help would be appreciated.

well you did right on the first thing
the problem generally is a bad estop but there are other things to check
Here are the probable causes for this error code:
a) E-Stop switch may be depressed or defective (already covered)

b) carriage wiring board may be defective (visually check for damage and check all connections)
c) mast cable may be bad (ohm out wires to check for open or short)
d) vehicle manager may be bad (unlikely)

Fact of the week
In March 2002, identical twins in Finland died on the same day in similar accidents within hours of each other. A 70-year-old man was killed by a truck while cycling; hours later, his twin brother was killed by a truck on the same road, about a mile away, before the family had been informed of the first accident.
