Discussion:
choosing a forklift

I am looking for a forklift to load a furnace for heat treating and moving containers. The opening in the furnace is 24 inches wide. It's legs are 45 wide on the outside of them and 40 on the inside. The load will be a max of 800 lbs.

The containers have legs with an opening between them of 20.5 inches. They weigh about 1500 lbs.

I am seriously considering a Presto PPS2200-62NFO-27. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks. The one I mentioned is a powered stacker so I am hoping it is easy to manuver. I'm acutally going today to try one out. I got very lucky and found someone willing to let me try it out. I've used those manual ones and one of the problems I have is lowering a heavy load. They drop fast.

Keep in mind, any manual forklift like a Presto is more cumbersome to operate and therefore not as precise when moving/installing equipment. Also, most places don't have manual forklifts for rent, so you'll need to purchase one in order to complete your project.

solonmike, why not add an e-mail contact in your profile (not the forum, it gets striped out in the forum)?

The floor must be in good shape so the small wheels that stacker has will roll ok.
