Discussion:
Check Engine Light On/ Scan Tool

Hello First Time Posting.

For a few days now our forklift has been throwing the check engine light. It isn't always on when you start it but for about 3 days now it has been coming on and off after you start it. Once on it stays on until you shut it down.
It has a low idle and the hydros aren't always as responsive as normal.

I saw the diagnostic port, is there a scan tool anywhere I can buy to chase the problem myself. If so please leave a link.

Depends what year, what system you have. It's got no accel cable right, using a potentiometer? Could be bad Pot, or even the adjustment will throw a code. The stop bolt on floor, if changed can cause a code. The wide open throttle switch out of adjustment, same thing. When it codes out, truck goes into limp mode, crawls.
A bad ignition coil or wiring can cause it to code out. Toyota has too many different systems, and buying a manual from dealer is a crap shoot.
You dont need a scan tool on older models, just ground the right plug and codes flash
