Yes i might agree there but Linde and Toyota manage their own sale network OK. But Manufacturing is totally different. Briggs control much of NACCO sales so a sale to another manufacture will have to have Briggs Consent some were on the Line

If it happens, that will be the end of a good manufacturer. A good dealer does not make a good manufacturer, add to that the poor reputation of Briggs in the uk, it will be a disaster waiting to happen.

You would of thought this would have happened but nothing has happened yet. So i think if they don't buy them this year it won't happen at all. IF NACCO goes some were else this would give both companies a problem if Briggs don't like the new owner as they control so much of NACCO product in North America where over 70% of NACCO sales are.


Briggs owner can afford NACCO with out a problem it is do they really want to take on a manufacturing business. I can see another manufacture buying NACCO if Briggs don't i think what will happen bean to long now for Briggs to buy NACCO. Is some one else will come in with a offer this might then force Briggs hand

Has anyone heard the rumors Briggs may be buying out Nacco? I am just curious if there is any truth to that.

Alot of good people with alot of experience took redundancy this time round, people are fed up with all the nonsence and bulls**t at briggs.

They certainly know how to make something simple into a big deal.
And totally pi** everyone one off in the process. ( including customers )

Its the people, not the sign above the door that makes a good company

Most engineers i know with over 20 years service in would take redundancy tomorrow if asked. How the place still runs i do not know

Fake Engineer, I think you have not understood what I was saying, tesco actually said what there profits were for several years but now it is clear what they actually said was not true, accountants can make it look like you are making more profit than you are. with the funding that briggs had, they should have been making much more than they actually said. Tommo, i dont know anyone who has left who wants to go back, empty can rattles loudest.

I Left the company 5 year ago and since then i read in shd magz and constantley see briggs ploughing money into articles all over - trade shows saying the usual employee satifaction powerfull positive people bollox etc and then i ring the engineers for chats and it sounds the same old story, engineers hate the place but theres a certain few get the special treatment, preferential overtime etc, sent from yorkshire to cannock to pdi new trucks on a weekend at overtime etc to keep em there. Still sounds old lex regime to me but the money / package was deffo better than others, if i was an engineer there i would just keep your head down, cover your *** and fill the jobsheets as they request, then when the *** hits the fan let the management manage it like there paid to do so.

Im sorry donkey punch but you can't compare Briggs to tesco, for one Briggs have always been very open with there accounts, fact. They have always spoke of there losses and gains. I left Briggs 3 years ago and I know what they have made and lost. They acctifully said there profits were 4M less then expected but they still made a 8M profit they acctifully said the Americans told them to reduce property and back office staff and that's what they are doing. You can't tell me that lindi Toyota and youngheinrich don't envy the way Briggs is funded. I am currently at a fast growing company based in Europe and I know they would love to be in Briggs position

An accountant can show a big profit when there is a small or no profit, tescos were doing that for years and now the chickens have come home to roost to the tune of 5 billion.

They might be making a profit today but what are the liabilities for tomorrow , This is what catches a lot of companies out they do deals just to get the business then get hit by the liabilities later. To say some companies make money out of manufacturing most break even and then make on the spares sales.

Yer but this is a company still turning a profit, ok it's a little short of the target profit but a profits a profit. And not all the big players are making a profit in the service and sales side. Toyota and lindi's for example are making profit but the bulk comes from manufacturing. Briggs a not bad company to work for, yes they have 5 people making the same decision and they often forget the business excises 10 mile out side of Cannock, but I'd go back tomorrow the grass is not always greener and all that.

Sad times when all people want is to be made redundant, this could seal the companies fait !!!
Someone need to step in a gain control before the bottom of the hill is reached !

You are right they have had a call out rota for years but it was an option to be on it... now it is being said that you "have" to be on it, a big difference in my opinion, The Company sounds like it's in a right mess as most of the engineers are only waiting for redundancies... Been beaten to death with the HR stick by the sound of it... Tracker watching to catch people out with time discrepancies etc... The good will has gone it's only downhill now. Time will tell that's for sure.
