Discussion:
Boss Electric/Steinbock

Hi there I have a problem with a Boss electric with the steinbock power steer controller similar to the Jungheinrich Keltronic units. Steer only works in one direction (it uses a 3 terminal power steer motor), swapped the motor cables around on the steer unit and the motor now turns in other direction. The sensor in the steer column appears to have correct voltage as i turn the steering either way (2.5v-0 and 2.5-5v). The steinbock power steer controller was stripped and checked it appears to be ok. Any ideas? Dont have any information on this controller. Any information on the steinbock power steer controller would be appreciated then i can bench test the unit in the workshop.

Hello,
I have Steinbock Boss LE 16-80 MK IV A-1. The steering at slow turning works, by rapidly turning itself off (Led "Leistungskreis" go ON). After the main power re-turn iti?1s work again.
I checked:
1. Endswitches ->OK
2. Steering Electronic (Capacitors)->OK
3. Motor ->? OK
4. Diodes modul ->OK
5. Steering Sensor ->probably OK (2V - (3.5V mitte) - 5V)

Steering electronic LED
Mitte -> OK
Endstupe -> OK
Links -> OK
Rechts -> OK

When the LED Elektronik is ON steering does not work.
What more can not be measured without some documentation.
if anyone has a service manual for a Boss LE 16-80?

Thanks

Sorted. Thank You everyone...Seems like a bad wiring from the end stop switch to the controller. Thanks once again..those mice lol

Hi,

ok now the simple things are gone. Just to check again:

1. Endswitches ok?
2. Steering Electronic was checked?
3. Motor ok?
4. Diodes ok?
5. Steering Sensor ok?

If thats all ok. You don´t have many opportunities. The bad things is what often happens is that the cables which run from the Steering Box to the Steering Motor are damaged by Mice (Mouse) yeah these little animals bite the cables! So check this too.

Hi there. The End stop switches seem to operate correctly the 2 leds for both end stops are off. The diodes check out ok, the motor checks out ok. The unit has also been bench tested and is ok. The sensor in the steering column shows a voltage variation of around 2 volts either way sitting at around 2 volts moving down near to zero and up towards 4 v. Any other pointers?? Clutching at straws, not sure what else to check.

Hi,

year @controlelectric is right i forgot that the Endposition Switches shut down the Steering when you reach the Endposition of Steering. There is one for left and one for right. They are located directly on the axle that rotates with the Steering wheel. They are green with rollers on them. But this should be shown in the Steering Electronic with the LEDs "Endanschlag Links" and "Endanschlag Rechts" both LEDs must be off they only turn on when you reach the Endposition.

Hi electrodrive,
The problem is not your diodes(although it is a good idea to check the diodes as an open circuit diode will damage the controller), by reversed the motor cables at your controller you checked the motor and the diodes for short circuits, as the voltages at the steer sensor check out the problem could be faulty limit switch or limit switch wiring or a faulty controller.

Hi there its a boss LE16. The Leds seem to work ok as if to say the unit is doing its job. I was looking for those diodes but could not find them, guess i was looking in the wrong place, i suspect one of those diodes to be open circuit. Thanks for letting me know where i can find it, will have a look tommorrow and let you know results. If anyone still gets the wiring info please forward so i can bench test the steinbock power steer units in the future. Thanks once again

Hi,

have you checked the "LEDs" in the Steering Electronic? They are named with the typical Problems where you can get an better Diagnostic, like "Endstufe" or "Leistungskreis" please check that too. Did you check the "Dioden-Modul" it is located in LE and JE Models on the left Side of the Masterbrakecylinder. You can open that Modul and there are only 2 Diodes in. Check them with an Tester.
