Discussion:
Banding Cardboard Stack With Forklift

We stack empty sleeves on a pallet, then set forklift tines on top of the cardboard while banding it. No one walks under the forks during banding. I realize there is no compression from the forklift carriage other than gravity. The forks mainly hold the stack stable and compresses the stack a little while banding. Does anyone know of any OSHA rules prohibiting this action? I want to make sure we are in compliance.

I don't know the law on that but when you do that you are taking pressure off the mast carriage that can cause the chains to come off the rollers and if that happens the carriage could drop to the floor when backing out not a good problem. The lift were made to pick up a load not to crush it l would look into getting a ballier.

Here are some helpful links about forklift safety:
https://www.osha.gov/powered-industrial-trucks
https://www.osha.gov/laws-regs/regulations/standardnumber/1910/1910.178
I am not sure if there are any other regulations that might be applicable.
