Hello all.
This is my first post so I hope this is the correct section.
I recently purchased a Baker FMD 040 from a local company that was destined for scrap and it has a couple of issues I was hoping to repair.
I have contacted Linde for a repair manual and a parts manual with no success so I was hoping maybe someone on here may know of a place to check.
The closest thing I came across was a pdf for a military unit on line and it wasn't for an FMD 040.
The chassis tag as far as I know reads;
Model # FMD 040
Serial# T1935-147
The unit lifts, tilts, goes forward, backwards, stops (after adding fluid to master cylinder) and turns (with a bit of effort).
One of the issues is the power steering works good if you're lifting or tilting but goes back to (Armstrong) manual steering if not using either one.
Also I would like to get to the wheel cylinders and prefer not to ruin anything else in the process.
Sorry for the long winded post. Simply trying to give some info.

I know this is a super old thread, but we just unburied a Baker FMD-040 from an industrial building we purchased and still the manuals are seemingly impossible to come by. Were you ever able locate where they may be available for purchase?
Hi Duo, I have an FMD-040 I'm trying to keep alive as well, and can't find a manual *anywhere*.
I can't seem to figure out how to email you, but I'd love a copy of the manual if you have a digital version of it?

I just got home from work and went out to check the pressure. There's already a "T" with gauge and at lock it's reading approx. 1000 PSI left or right. So that checks out.
The problem is it doesn't always go into "power mode" when driving/turning. The only way to consistently get the PS to work is to either tilt or raise the forks.
EVERY once in a while (with some fiddling) the PS will activate at an idle without using the tilt or lift method. That's how I was able to get the readings today.
To clarify, the pressure test was done WITHOUT using the tilt/lift method.
I've considered adapting a regular 'ol belt driven PS pump so that's the only thing it's going to. I don't know if it would work properly or not. Along with finding the room to mount the silly thing....LOL.
Sounds like the removal of the wheel/drum combo isn't going to be TOO bad of project. But I've been wrong before.
Any ideas where I might find manuals for this project?

The power steering and hydraulic pump are one and the same There is a priority valve on the hydraulic pump that determines the amount of pressure going to the steering system. The pressure hose going from the pump to the steering gear should have a Tee in line. Remove the cap and install a pressure gauge. The pressure should be about 900 PSI at full steering lock. If it is lower you will have to remove the counterweight to get access to the pump so you can adjust the pressure.
To access the wheel cylinders remove all of the nuts holding the drive wheel on and hit the steel on the inside of the drive tire to loosen up the cones around the wheel studs, then remove the tire.
