Yale LC52LT-2024:
Bad ring gear

I know this thing is really old but it comes in handy. Recently it's been grinding when engaging the starter and it's become a pain to start. I'm having the starter rebuilt but the ring gear is pretty bad too. I haven't had any luck figuring out what engine is in it. The tag on the engine says "F135 8008 3312" and the tag on the forklift says model LC52LT-2024. Serial AJ-117812. I talked to Yale but I never heard back from them. I'd like to order parts but I'm at a standstill. If anyone could help me out it would be greatly appreciated.

Its a 4 cylinder flat head engine? I did some research and the Continental F135 looks to be a lower displacement version of the ever popular F163 engine. Chances are its a press on ring gear. As an engine begins to get tired, the flywheel tends to stop in the same spot everytime. If you spun the flywheel 360 degrees with the starter off you will probbly find the rest of the flywheel looks ok. If you are unable to find the correct parts, you might consider pulling the flywheel, marking the current location of the worn area, knock the ring gear off the flywheel and reinstall it in a fresh area where it tends to stop. Much better would be to locate a new part. Good luck-

Fact of the week
The now-ubiquitous 'Keep Calm and Carry On' phrase was coined by the British government in 1939 to encourage its citizens to stay strong. Posters with the slogan were printed but never officially issued and only unearthed in 2000.
