Komatsu FG15-14 SERIAL # 124801:
4P Komatsu Engine Noise

Just acquired this truck and the engine has a clicking noise when accelerated. The noise seems to be in/around the water pump area. At idle the engine runs very smooth but when accelerator is depressed significantly a (clicking) is very audible. I tightened the fan bolts, loosened the alternator, removed the belt and restarted momentarily and noise was still present seemingly eliminating these three items. Engine oil is at proper level and previous owner indicated this noise was present when he purchased the unit which he ignored. It is not in my nature to leave something this significant without attempting to correct the problem. Since I'm not familiar with Komatsu engines I can't believe this is acceptable. Also would like to obtain shop/parts manual should one be available for this lift which I believe to be SM028.

Showing items 16 - 18 of 18 results.
is that all the info on the model number there is? just FG15 - 14?
if so then according to komatsu there are 3 types of gas engines that could be in that truck, 4P toyota , H20 nissan or C240 isuzu engines.

can you tell me which it has?

Thanks very much. Yes the clicking noise increases with a load and when tilted. Certainly appreciate the response. I've contacted Komatsu for a service manual but so far nothing.

There is a chain that drives the hydraulic pump on the front of the motor, inside the front cover. Do you notice any difference in the sound if you tilt back all the way and put a load on the pump and chain? If the chain is worn and stretched enough it will make noise and actually jump on the sprocket and make a knocking noise under load. Counterweight, radiator, and front cover must come off to get at it.
