1968 Datsun C3 Torque Converter Flex Plate

This forklift was born with a 1.1L Cablight Petrol engine. I have since swapped it for a D1105 Kubota Diesel engine.

It seems I have busted or sheared off the flex plate. I know I will probably not located another plate. My question is this,

1. Can I machine a new flex plate from regular sheet metal?
2. If not, could I re-machine and alter a different flex plate from a different vehicle?
3. Is that flex plate a hardened steel that I will not be able to drill and machine?
