Woodward Governor Company has won a contract to supply Woodward MI-4 engine control systems for Daewoo Heavy Industries & Machinery's gas forklifts for the US and Asian markets.

The MI-4 system is a system of fuel, air, and ignition control modules for small industrial engines, designed to help engine manufacturers meet the 2004 Environmental Protection Agency emission standards in the USA and other standards around the world.

Woodward vice-president Tim Loyd said the agreement resulted directly from the company's efforts to meet the emission control needs of the engine market.

"As tighter emission standards take effect for diesel and spark-ignited engines, we will continue working with Daewoo and other manufacturers to develop solutions," he said.

One partner involved in the Daewoo agreement is Natural Gas Vehicle International, in Korea, which will apply and certify the Woodward system on General Motors and Mitsubishi engines for Daewoo.
