The US International Trade Commission is hearing submissions on trariffs. |
About 320 officials from US manufacturers, retailers and other companies and trade groups are appearing at hearings that started on Monday at the US International Trade Commission, urging for the end of some import tariffs.
This is the fourth round of hearings, after President Donald Trump levied duties on USD250 billion of products last year.
When trade talks with China failed last month, Trump ordered a tariff increase from 10% to 25% on USD200 billion of goods and targeted an additional USD300 billion in products overlooked in previous rounds.
Container port terminals are among those pleading with the Trump Administration that gantry cranes be removed from the latest round of Chinese tariffs.
China is a major source of gantry cranes for US ports and operators argue that tariffs will impact on their financial viability.
Forklifts have been included in the
first round of the Trump Administration's tariff regime in July 2018, leading to price rises as importers were forced to pass on their increased costs.
