Distribution centres and high-rack shelves are demanding applications for order pickers and turret trucks. Using high-quality RAEDER-VOGEL wheels and castors will increase overall productivity and safety while saving costs and reducing downtime.
Horizontal order pickers are mainly used in distribution centres. Especially for intensive and high throughput order picking operations, with high speeds and heavy loads as well as constant start/stop motions, we recommend non-marking
VULKOLLAN® treads (93° Shore A) to avoid thermal overload and resultant failure of the drive wheel.
Crowned drive wheels can be used to facilitate turning when turning on-the-spot is required. For these applications, we also offer twin wheel pallet rollers where each of the rollers rotates separately.

In cold store or freezer applications with wet and dirty surfaces especially in mixed operations where order pickers travel from the deep-freeze area to the loading zone, problems with traction and wheel grip might occur which might be dangerous both for the driver and the load. In these cases
TRACTOTHAN® and
TRACTOSOFT® wheel treads reduce the risk of sliding and improve transport safety and performance. These
VULKOLLAN® based materials are compounded in a patented process using a granulate with a lower shore hardness.
In those cases where the
stabilising wheels are subjected to frequent high shock loads especially when travelling on ramps, we also recommend
VULKOLLAN® treads instead of the commonly used standard polyurethane wheels because of their higher load capacity and good damping values.
Our latest innovation is
VULKODYN® - a novel polyurethane based on
DESMODUR® 15 by BAYER AG, Leverkusen for
fast moving dynamic applications with high loads. The hydrolysis resistant, non-marking material with a shore hardness of 94° A has excellent chemical and mechanical properties for an increased load capacity compared to other high-quality polyurethanes, even higher than
VULKOLLAN®. It is therefore ideally suited for forklift trucks in distribution centres, as well as in warm and humid climates.
Turret trucks operating in very narrow aisles in high density warehouse applications are either fitted with inductive wire guidance or guide rollers for rail guidance. When changing or reentering the aisles, the truck's guide rollers are subject to high pressure. Therefore, we recommend using
VULKOLLAN® guide rollers with the standard shore hardness 93° Shore A.
If you use our
electrically conductive VULKOLLAN®-ELF guide rollers which offer a volume resistance value below 10
4 ohms, electrostatic charges are discharged through the entire tread, irrespective of the tread wear. This is of importance in warehouses with a high risk of fire and explosion, e. g. those involving the storage of chemicals and cosmetics as well as paint and lacquer etc.

On heavy-duty narrow-aisle trucks in cold store and deep freeze applications, flat spots develop on the load and/or drive wheels when the trucks are idle for long periods, typically overnight. Due to the low ambient temperatures, these flat spots are slow to recover and can thus cause intolerable vibration. To avoid this we recommend the use of
VULKOLLAN® wheel treads with a higher shore hardness (95° instead of the commonly used 93° Shore A) which are more resistant to flattening and are consequently quick to recover their shape in the morning.
More than
60 years of experience as a manufacturer of wheels and castors in Germany and more than
30 years of experience as a manufacturer of VULKOLLAN® wheels and castors have made us one of the
leading suppliers of wheels for the forklift and materials handling industry worldwide.
Competent in-house development and design, innovative tread materials, state-of-the-art production facilities with ultra-modern machines and a computer-controlled test stand for dynamic tests of wheels and castors as well as extensive field tests in difficult applications are your guarantee for
