A NSW Industrial Court judge has ordered a Sydney company, convicted of an OHS breach that led to the serious injury of a teenage apprentice, to advertise details of the case in the print media.

Justice Marks directed the company to place the advertisement in at least one edition of a major Sydney daily newspaper and two trade magazines.

The order means that the 228-word advertisement could be seen by a potential readership of over 400,000.

Stephensons Cranes Pty Ltd of Arndell Park was fined $65,000, with half the fine to be paid to WorkCover, and also ordered to pay WorkCover costs.

The 19-year-old apprentice suffered serious crush injuries to his lower torso and legs on 20 February, 2007 when he fell 2.5 metres at a Holsworthy residential construction site and was hit by a one-tonne load of timber flooring.

The apprentice was not wearing a fall arrest.

Stephensons Cranes was ordered to advertise the conviction by Justice Marks under section 115 of the Act, which allows courts to direct the offender to "take specified action to publicise the offence, its consequences (and) the penalty imposed".
