The wheel is a highly stressed component of the vehicle that may be subjected to extreme forces whilst in service. It is, therefore, absolutely necessary to handle wheels with care and to pay particular attention to their mounting, removal and maintenance in order to ensure safe operation and prevent possible accidents.

Multi-piece wheels are safer than split wheels, which have been known to explode during maintenance or when being fitted to vehicles. But in practice, problems have also occurred with Multi-piece rims with loose rings or when different types or manufacturer brand rims have been mixed together through inattention or negligence.

In order to avoid the confusion and loose rings of one manufacturer part with another one, all components of the Hayes-Lemmerz wheels are properly stamped and for safety reasons, the tapered bead seat ring cannot be omitted in the four-piece rim assembly.
