Port Koper places order for RTGs

Slovenian container terminal Luka Koper (Port of Koper) has placed an order for four Konecranes electric rubber-tyred gantry (RTG) cranes to replace older equipment in the yard, with the order expected to be delivered in Q1 2025 at the latest.

Luka Koper has a current fleet of 28 Konecranes RTGs, 15 of which are fully electric, driven by a cable reel system. The port also operates four Konecranes rail-mounted gantry (RMG) cranes.

Edvin Boskin, technical manager of the container terminal says of the order: “Konecranes RTGs give us the high peak performance we need, and the cranes are reliable and easy to maintain”.

“We have a long-term electrification strategy, and so does Konecranes, which makes this order a natural next step in the long-term cooperation between the two companies,” Baskin adds.

Konecranes says the new RTGs will be powered by cable reel systems connected to the local grid; the same way its current electric RTGs are powered.

The RTGs include auxiliary batteries and the Truck Lift Prevention feature.
