This week saw industry leaders in the US marking the third annual National Forklift Safety Day.
It is a great initiative of the Industrial Truck Association and serves as a focal point for manufacturers to highlight the safe use of forklifts and the importance of operator training. This day provides an opportunity for the industry to educate customers, policymakers and government about forklift operating safety practices.
But while the event has come a long way in three years, there is still a long way to go. Importantly, safety is a global issue, and the focus should now turn to creating a worldwide forklift safety day. Indeed, the current event chairman, UniCarriers' head James Radous III, told Forkliftaction News at CeMAT earlier this month that he'd like to see the event go global. Given the number of global brands that already support the event and the safety efforts of organisations like the UK Forklift Truck Association, we would hope that this idea takes off and maybe next year we'll be able to mark the first Global Forklift Safety Day.
