A number of European manufacturers will be breathing a sigh of relief after this week's EU adoption of recommendations for the easing of the transition to tighter emissions controls.
As we report in this newsletter, the industry representative group FEM convinced a European Parliament committee to extend the transition period and to include special terms for replacement engines as it harmonises emissions laws through the member states.
It's a complex arrangement, balancing environmental concerns with the economic and efficiency interests of the forklift industry.
But it's not over yet. The matter still has to get past an environmental committee.
