 Jungheinrich EMD 115i |
Our reporting on the judging for the 2017 International Forklift of the Year, where
Forkliftaction News was on the selection panel, continues with a finalist in the warehouse truck category. This week, we share the judges' findings on the Jungheinrich EMD 115i.
The EMD 115i pedestrian-controlled electric stacker is a universal high-lift truck with a support arm lift as well as innovative and highly efficient lithium-ion technology offering numerous benefits. The Jungheinrich EMD 115i has an extremely short length of just 558 mm, which makes the stacker with support arm lift the most compact machine in its class.
Moreover, the battery is far lighter than a conventional lead-acid battery, and the EMD 115i weighs just 510 kg, including its battery. This means it can even be used on the loading lift of a truck or lorry with two pallets each weighing 400 kg - without any problem. This makes loading and unloading processes up to 50% more productive.
The support arm lift also opens up a range of versatile utilisation options. The support arm lift means that ramps are no problem for the EMD 115i, for example.
The Jungheinrich EMD 115i is equipped as standard with a PIN code access system. The IFOY Test machine was fitted with the optional card system, which allows access to the truck using any standard RFID card.
During the test, it was clear that the monomast provides an excellent view of both fork tips. The testing team was also impressed by the responsive handling, something Jungheinrich has achieved without using sensors. The five-wheel chassis also makes the truck extremely stable.
As the lithium-ion battery has a relatively neutral battery voltage, it also supplies constant power during lifting and moving. In the test, the truck even moved faster when loaded than in unloaded condition.
An integrated charger allows charging of the lithium-ion battery at any 230 v socket outlet, and the battery is half-charged within just 30 minutes. According to Jungheinrich, a full charge takes 80 minutes.
The IFOY test truck was a silentDRIVE version. Thanks to, among other things, the threefold load rollers, the truck glides quietly across the floor. The model claims a noise reduction of around 40% compared to the standard EMD 115i. This makes the silentDRIVE ideal for loading and unloading activities in cities or environments where noise is undesirable or prohibited.
As a monomast stacker has not been tested to date, no data are available that would allow comparison with rival machines.
IFOY Test verdict:The Jungheinrich EMD 115i is a powerful, very short and agile stacker. The monomast ensures that the operator has a good view of the fork tips and the load. The truck is also quiet and easy to load. It is a true all-rounder that can be used anywhere - both on ramps and in sales rooms.
