Supply chains will need to become more efficient and agile to minimise costs and maximise opportunities as the online retailing wave rolls on, according to Cameron Poolman, CEO of online retailer and auctioneer GraysOnline.
Poolman will deliver a keynote presentation at supply chain and logistics event, Smart 2013, on how the online revolution has affected his company.
Grays sells more than 120,000 consumer, industrial and commercial items every month to both consumers and businesses and pioneered online auctions back in 2000.
Online sales now account for more than 95% of Grays' business and have dramatically changed its supply chain and operations.
According to Poolman, businesses need to trial and learn fast when customising their supply chains to ride the online wave.
"We had to consolidate and rationalise all our Sydney warehouse sites into one central distribution centre. Plus our increased national buyer base meant we started to hold larger parcels of stock, requiring additional storage and warehousing."
Smart Conference & Expo will bring together more than 100 local and international speakers at the Sydney Convention & Exhibition Centre from 26-27 June 2013.
