Terex Port Equipment Strong Tradition Heading To The Future

Thursday, 21 June 2012 ( #570 )
To trace the history of Terex Port Equipment is the same as many other modern manufacturing companies with roots starting in specialised businesses that over time have been brought together with the need for an injection of capital. These businesses have now combined both technical and engineering expertise to be one of the world most advanced port equipment manufactures supplying port handling equipment to most ports in the world.

Reggiane Cranes and Plants (formerly Reggaine) was founded in 1904 and has been a forerunner in modern industry in Europe for the last 50 years. The Italian Company represents one of Europe's finest examples of technological and industrial know-how in the heavy machinery, engineering, desalination plants and aircraft sectors. "Reggiane" is the current European leader in the large port crane and intermodal terminal field, and has always been one of the only leading global entities in the industry.

The Italian company Fantuzzi was founded in 1960 under the name OMF. From a small workshop dedicated to sidelift truck production, it grew rapidly to become a pioneer in material handling history, manufacturing highly specialized and innovative products. Today, Fantuzzi is a worldwide leader in state-of-the art container lifting equipment.

Founded in 1824, the German Company Noell pioneered the port sector with their "Peiner" Straddle Carrier which handled the very first ever overseas container to arrive in Europe. Set on solid foundations, Noell has steadily grown to become what can only be described as an outstanding and durable success story that has revolutionized the entire port sector. Noell is a leading reference in today's global container handling business.

Based on a tradition of unrivalled industrial quality, Reggiane, Fantuzzi and Noell have been integrated as members of the Terex family since 2009. Today they support Terex Cranes in reaching leading worldwide status in the supply, design and manufacture of equipment and services in the Port Equipment sector.

The cornerstone of the "renaissance" of the Lentigione plant is Terex's own operating system, better known as T.B.S ( Terex Business System) which covers 360° of the structure of the company , utilizing Lean manufacturing principles and techniques to continuously further improvement in all areas. Such an approach applied specifically to the business will soon result in a total range renovation for the Terex reachstacker, top-lifts, fork lift trucks and empty handlers that will be manufactured at the former Fantuzzi factory in Lentigione, Italy.

The entire range will benefit through an innovative design concept, that will allow maximized production flexibility to react faster to market demand, along with new innovations and technology. This will include new hydraulics, fuel saving solutions and increased performance, offering our customers a faster return on investment and unsurpassed productivity, creating a range that will meet every application required in terms of capacity, stacking height and attachments. Offering the ultimate aesthetics in terms of design .

The first unit that Fantuzzi supplied to Australia was in 1994 to Allforks Hire (part of the Lencrow Group). This was installed as the first unit at BMT on Fishermans Island Queensland. This unit is now located in Sydney and is still in service. Since that time Fantuzzi has supplied cranes, straddle stackers, reachstackers and forklifts. The last units installed were two FDC450 container handlers to Veoila Enviromental and were sold through Terex Port Equipment.

Lencrow is proud to support TPE Liftrucks division in sales, after sales and spare parts for the entire East coast of Australia.

Lencrow has been involved in materials handling for over 35 years and is a privately owned and operated company. Ross Grassick, Managing Director of Lencrow says "We have been involved with the Fantuzzi product for many years and still they are our first choice in heavy lift forklifts and reach stackers. We are a solutions based supplier offering not only the equipment but a complete solution to materials handling requirements. Terex is the perfect partner to offer our customers in the heavy lift range of the solution".
