"For someone who has a career as a forklift operator it's virtually impossible for your children to see what you do for a living. But here at the Rally, it's possible!" - John Gilder, General Manager

"One of the things that changed the B.C. Championship Forklift Rally at a fundamental level was when we decided to start making the event family friendly" says John Gilder, General Manager.

2011 Forklift Rally
"When the Rally Organizing Committee decided to make the event family friendly, participation and spectator attendance started to climb. With the addition of the Bar-B-Que, the BC Lions Cheerleaders, a race car and a bouncy castle for the kids, the barriers that were preventing spouses and families from attending began to drop" says Gilder.

"For someone who has a career as a forklift operator it's virtually impossible for your children to see what you do for a living. But here at the Rally, it's possible!" smiles Gilder, "And if they can pull off a win with the family watching, that's the icing on the cake."

"The event has now also taken on something of a party atmosphere as a number of people return each year to compete and have made friendships with competitors from other companies. It has a kind of high school reunion party type of feeling at times." says Gilder.

Registration for the event opened on Monday March 19th and competitors signing up before Friday April 13th will get 50% off the regular registration fee. Read more about the competition and registration prices here.

The B.C. Championship Forklift Rally began in 1997 as a venue to promote forklift skills and safety in a fun and competitive environment and is presented by the Canadian Material Handling & Distribution Society (www.CMHDS.org), a registered non-profit industry association representing the Warehousing & Distribution community in British Columbia, Canada.

The Forklift Rally is comprised of four divisions - Narrow Aisle Reach Truck, Power Pallet Jack and Sit-Down Counterbalanced (Electric) and Sit-Down Counterbalanced (Propane) with separate obstacle courses for each division being run simultaneously during the event. Competitors are required to manoeuvre through a precision driving course and are judged on time, course accuracy and tasks such as Forklift Basketball, Bowling & Soccer. In addition, operators are required to complete a multiple choice test based on WorkSafeBC regulations.

Winners are determined by combining the course time, the number of course demerits and the number incorrect answers on the written test. The operators with the lowest overall scores are declared the winners and share in cash prizes of over $3500.00.
