Worksafe has confirmed that a 25-year-old stonemason died after an incident involving a forklift at a Somerton factory in Melbourne's north.
It is understood the forklift was being operated on a sloping driveway when it tipped and crushed a worker who was standing nearby.
The death brings the workplace fatality toll to 44 for 2021.
Police and emergency services were called to Fleet Street in Somerton to assist a man who was believed to have been trapped under a forklift at the premises for some time.
He could not be saved and died at the scene.
WorkSafe is investigating and police are preparing a report for the coroner.
