Police have charged an 26-year-old man with multiple offences after he was caught riding a stolen scissor lift through downtown Adelaide, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation reports.

At around 4am on Sunday September 10, police who were monitoring closed-circuit television saw the man driving the scissor lift down Hindley Street, a popular Adelaide party strip.

Police say the scissor lift was stolen from a construction site, according to the report.

The Lightsview man, who returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.138, was charged with the illegal use of a motor vehicle, drink driving and driving an unregistered and uninsured motor vehicle.

He was bailed to appear in Adelaide's Magistrates Court in November.
