After eight months' experimental operation at the Port of Brisbane, Kalmar Industries and Patrick Technology & Systems have claimed a resounding victory in their trial of the world's first automated container terminal.
The companies have extended the terminal layout and increased operating capacity. Since the first vessel was serviced late last year, the "Autostrads" have completed 15 ship calls, with each vessel departing on time.
Kalmar said the machines were consistently exceeding 23 moves an hour, peaking at 35 moves an hour.
Meanwhile, Kalmar is rolling out a new version of its Smartpath satellite container position verification system for straddle carriers after successful trials at Terminal Contenedores de Barcelona.
