Judge D Brock Hornby sentenced Patrick Doyon to 45 days in prison and one year of supervision after completion of his incarceration time. The decision was rendered at a 16 December hearing in the US District Court in Portland.
As previously
reported, Doyon adamantly hid an asset - his JCB Loadall 508C forklift - from the Internal Revenue Service and said he would go to jail rather than allow the agency to seize the equipment in lieu of payment for back taxes. In August, Doyon pleaded guilty to a charge of forcible rescue of seized property.
A tipster told the agency that Doyon of Greene, Maine was hiding the forklift on the property of AD Electric Co Inc in Monmouth, Maine. The government plans to sell the forklift at an auction during 2014.
