This week marks the National Safety Stand-Down in the United States, a week-long awareness campaign to highlight the dangers of working at heights.
Organisers point out that fatalities caused by falls from elevation continue to be a leading cause of death for construction employees, accounting for 370 of the 991 construction fatalities recorded in 2016.
Those deaths were preventable and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration is backing the campaign to raise fall hazard awareness across the country in an effort to stop fall fatalities and injuries.
With warehouse racking getting taller and more use of high-reach equipment and elevated platforms, this awareness campaign is relevant far beyond the construction industry, and we urge everyone who works at height to take care out there this week and every week.
