OSHA's training rule (29CFR1910.178(L)) for lift truck operators became law on 12-1-99. The employer must now ensure that their operators of powered industrial trucks are trained.
In response to the above requirements, Occupational Safety and Health Consultants, Inc. (OSHC Inc.) created two interactive on-line courses to train operators in the basic fundamentals of safe vehicle operation. They are Frk101 for Counterbalance Sit-down Rider Lift Trucks and Frk105 for Narrow Aisle Lift Trucks (the on-line offering of the Rough Terrain Lift Trucks course will be added soon). The intent of this Internet training program is to provide the basic knowledge and safe operating practices for the type of vehicle used.
Both courses are available at the OSHC, Inc. website, www.oshc.com. The course material may be downloaded to the user's computer or studied online. Either way, it is at the student's convenience. No enrollment is necessary to view the materials and OSHC, Inc. stands ready to answer any questions or address any issues that may result. When the student is ready, he takes the final examination, which is immediately graded to determine if the enrollee passes or fails the course. Additional training material will be provided at no cost to the enrollee until the goal of successful course completion is accomplished. When the Final Exam is passed, a supervisor or other qualified person will conduct the practical observation portion of the training using the checklist provided. Average course completion time is three hours.
Upon completion of the Practical Observation checklist, OSHC, Inc. will mail out a personalized certificate and wallet card to the enrollee or employer documenting completion. The certificate and wallet card is good for three years from the date that the training was completed. A 10% discount will be credited if this News Release is mentioned when registering.
All three Lift Truck Training courses can also be conducted at the client's facility. The on-site courses combine three hours of classroom instruction followed by hands-on training on the truck at the facility.
