 Foodstuffs's new distribution centre |
Foodstuffs' 7.7 hectare building in South Auckland is in full operation, supplying groceries for over 150 of its North Island stores.
The distribution centre, touted as the largest in New Zealand, cost NZ$70 million in the fit out alone and holds up to 80,000 pallets in the warehouse.
The new Foodstuffs facility was designed with sustainability in mind, with a comprehensive rainwater capture system and 29,150 solar panels used to generate electricity to run the site. The power generation comes in handy since every piece of equipment in use is electric.
The systems were put through their paces last week, running non-stop as Easter is the second-busiest trading period of the year for Foodstuffs.
