Construction companies HSG Developments and HSG Asphalt have been charged with one count each for failing, so far as reasonably practicable, to provide and maintain a safe workplace following a man’s death after he was run over by a skid steer loader.
The skid steer loader was being operated after hours by a co-worker of the deceased employee.
WorkSafe Victoria alleges the companies breached the OHS Act by failing to provide and maintain a system of work for securely storing operating keys for items of plant, including the skid steer, to prevent untrained or unauthorised people gaining access.
The companies also face a charge for failing to ensure people other than employees were not exposed to health and safety risks.
The HSG group of companies provides concreting and asphalt services.
Melbourne Magistrates’ Court will hear the matter on 2 September 2024.
