Sales for Oshkosh Corp's access equipment segment (excluding a concluded military telehandler contract) rose 9.3% in the second quarter ended 31 March.
"The improvement was principally the result of higher unit volumes, improved aftermarket parts and service sales and favourable pricing," the company says. Including the completed military work from 2013, segment sales grew 5.6% to USD866.0 million from USD817.4 million.
For the recent quarter in access equipment, aerial work platforms accounted for sales of USD421.0 million, telehandlers for USD299.7 million and other equipment for USD145.3 million.
In a fiscal 2014 forecast for all operations, the company's estimated sales range reflects higher expectations in the access equipment segment, which is Oshkosh's largest business unit. Oshkosh reports profit of USD71.5 million on sales of USD1.68 billion in the recent quarter versus USD86.5 million on sales of USD1.98 billion for last year's corresponding period. Lower sales came from the defence and fire-emergency segments.
