Workshop supervisor / Fitter 2006 - 2010

Responsible for supervising, advising and assisting a team of around eight personnel. Managing the service and repair of a fleet of 100 vehicles including safety inspections and annual mandatory inspections to the required VOSA standards. In charge of ordering and receipt of spares and consumables. Workshop waste manager and energy warden.

Workshop Manager/ Fitter 2004 - 2006

Sole vehicle technician and workshop manager at RAF Saxa Vord in the Shetland Islands. Looking after a small fleet of snow and ice clearance vehicles also 4 recreational/fishing boats.
Carrying out all aspects of workshop running and husbandry. Liaising with companies, councils and meeting with executives.

Workshop fitter / mechanic 1986 - 2004

Worked all over the UK at various RAF stations progressing to supervisory and junior managerial roles.

Overseas experience 1986 - present

Various detachments to Falkland Islands , Croatia , Italy , Kosovo and Afghanistan. Completing tours in generally hard, demanding conditions.

* Technical Knowledge: carrying out servicing and repair, covering a wide variety of vehicles and ground equipment employed within the armed services from motorcycles, cars and generators to specialist aircraft refuellers, forklifts, fire tenders, JCB and Caterpillar machinery.
* Management: competent in all managerial tasks necessary to run an efficient workshop.
* Advisor: regularly provides professional advice to senior management and vehicle technicians on technical issues
* Supervision: of workshop personnel on a daily basis
* Inspector: carries out safety and annual mandatory vehicle inspections. Trained to VOSA approved standards.
* Procurement: ordering and receipt of spares and consumable items.
* Waste management: trained workshop waste manager and energy warden.
* Communication: communicates on a daily basis with local, national and international companies on trade related matters.
* Tutor: guiding apprentices through their military competencies and NVQ qualifications.
