Bought a few forklifts to fix them up, and I've been able to acquire enough info about the other two, but cant seem to find enough info on the Yale, its the oldest one of the bunch.
GLC020CBJUAV083 with serial # L404358. I believe its a 1984 (or so I'm told) with Mazda engine. But which Mazda? FE? UB/D5? Or an E series? If I'm not mistaken, somewhere around the time this was built, there were some different engine models introduced by Mazda.
GL= L.P. Gas
020= 2000lb capacity
C= not sure
B= Design series (not sure what that relates to)
J= Made in Japan
U= Mazda Engine (but which series?)
V= Simplex Mast
083= Collapsed Mast Height in inches
The serial number, I dont know how to decode and I believe thats where the info I'm really looking for lies. Anyone know where to get this info?

I am with you on lack of information on these Mazda VA engines.
We have a lift with the same engine and was trying to just get a used engine at a wrecking yard to replace it. We haven't been able to find anything that tells us what engine will interchange.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hey Steve, yes it does have push rod tubes exposed at the side of the cylinder head below the valve cover

Ok, I actually had time to drive out there and look at the engine itself. Cleaned up the side of the engine opposite the intake and exhaust manifold and found some stamping across the block right at the base of the head. I would post a picture but I don't see an option to do that on here. Anyway here's what the stamping said:

When I look up when different series Mazda engines were used, theres a Wikipedia page that shows the different engine families and names, what displacement they are and what years they were used. I see under Early OHV engines there is a UA/UB Engine with 1484cc displacement. Gotta be it.
Only thing is, it says they were used between 1959 and 1967! Do you believe this information to be correct? Is my 1984 Yale Forklift actually not built in 1984? Was it really built in the 1960's? Or were the older engines used in these forklifts later on?
