Discussion:
Training on a large forklift

Australian legislation rules are that once you have attained your competency on a forklift then you are able to drive most forklifts of any size for example if I train and gain competency on a 2.5 tonne forklift that entitles me to drive around in something the size of the Queen Mary, I have a 32 tonne hyster on site for which it carries large and wide loads, but I keep running into brick walls in terms of getting a seperate training and assesment package together for this machine, I would value anybodys input or perspective on this.

The training & assessment scene is undergoing a change.
To continue as a trainer & Assessor you are going to have to allign yourself with an R.T.O.
To explain the changes to the system the Department has scheduled a Seminar at Fitzys on 13 & 14 of Febuary.
There is going to be a requirement for all applicants for a licence to provide proof of training in both theory & practical experience (40 Hrs).
I have the items you seek so you may wish to contact me.

Gents,@FCL we operate a range of Hysters in these operations and agree to some degree with your viewpoints.I have been an FL Assessor Trainer for TAFE for several years, eventhough our FL cert of competency enables full range of FL operations,if you have details avail for larger units please let me know.I am also looking for videos on the larger units to conduct in house training for our operators.

True Gary but that is only half of the picture.
The Government has legislated to ensure competency on large forklifts by making the employer responsible for the extra -site /situation specific circumstances.
I am a RTO for forklift trucks and as such have developed the training program to suit this circumstance.
Training is not a backyard affair any longer, Professional instruction is available to those who seek it, too long have we had the situation where the employer does nothing "Shee'l be rite mate" or simply buys a training video and says "Have a look at this men."
The newly enacted Legislation requires Registered Training Organisations to oversee & provide training not only in licenced areas but outsie that area as well.
I suggest You find yourself an RTO and let the "Specialists" do their stuff.

Fact of the week
The two internal cavities in our nose called nostrils function as separate organs. Each nostril has its own set of turbinates and olfactory receptors. The two independent organs work together through a mechanism called the nasal cycle, where one nostril is dominant for air intake while the other rests and is better at detecting scents.
