Boss RH30D-5B1

Hi
I Have a problem with a Boss RH30D-5B1 forktruck made in 1997 yes shes old. it drives forward with no problem all other functions are normal. But it does not go backwords unless its reved really hard and then it only just about pulls itself along.
Ived checked the obvious things.any help would be much appreciated..
