Discussion:
toyota 1z

Hello,
hope somebody here can help.
I have an issue with toyota 1z engine on a forklift.
I made the mistake to buy it second hand without test. I did not have time to go and see.
Unfortunately, starting the forklift on my yard, it made heavy smoke, no power. I first tried to set injection, replaced injector, and finally decided to remove cylinder head.
I found it badly broken between cylinder 2&3.
I sent the head to be machined, and re-start with a clean surface. Installed new gasket, re-assembled the engine, started. It was running much more good.
But I had the feeling like power was not at 100%. After only 2-3h running, it failed again. Same problem : head gasket blown between cyl 2&3.

I do not know the historic of this engine, if it has overheated in the past, but I want to fix it.

Different solutions in front of me :
1. I probably have to re-surface the engine block, replace cyl liners. I am not a so experienced, can I just replace liners, and go ahead?

2. I have to possibility to buy a toyota 1dz for parts. how different are 1z and 1dz?? Anybody can explain the differences? What parts are common between 1z and 1dz?

thanks for your help.
