LP Unit wont start-LP engine newbie needs advice

We picked up a C500 Y-50 LP unit which had been parked outside for
2 years due to a bad starter. We replaced starter and battery-topped and fluids and tried to start. it cranks over and has good spark and compression. Will run if you give it a shot of gum cutter or starting fluid. When I hook up the propane tank and turn on the valve I can feel the surge of fuel in the hose. When I disconnect the tank I can press the end of the spring loaded valve in filler fitting and the propane will blow back. I assume I am getting fuel to what appears to be some kind of regulator/electric control which then moves on to a specially converted carb with a manual choke. The regulator/electric device as I'm calling it- has a 12 Volt wire hooked to it which is activated when I turn the key on. I need a primer in the propane delivery fuel system and some basic trouble shooting. The unit was reported to have run well when the starter went out some time ago. Any advice appreciated. If this was a gasoline machine I would of cleaned the carb-stuck in a kit and been on the road again. Thanks in advance

That wire goes to the valve that turns on the propane. It's called a lock off. It should make a click sound when activated. That is attached to the regulator that drops the pressure down, then to the carb. If the electric valve is not opening, then no fuel. You could carefully take the hose off the carb and turn the key on to see if fuel comes out. If not then the electric valve probably is not opening.
