Discussion:
Linde / Baker Power issue

I have a Linde / Baker Lift truck model # B50CE and when the key is turned off the power steering keeps running. I have to unplug the battery connection in order to shut it off. I have had mechanics look at this and nobody seems to know what the problem is. I can't find any schematics either and I think that would help. Has any body else had this problem? If so what did you do?

I agree with you, as I said in a previous post I don't know who did what to this truck and I do suspect that something was not put back in the right spot.

the point i was trying to make is NOTHING is supposed to be energised when the key is turned off
something definatly is either shorted or wired incorrectly
I checked on linde's website but they do not list any baker/linde products
theirs is strictly linde and i have no access to baker material

I'm not even sure if the power steering pump is hooked up to the right location, so many people have worked on this truck along with it's age I just don't know. Is there any place that might have a schematic on this model?

On this particular truck the power steering runs straight on positive from one of the fuses and it suppose to get negative on demand(only when the steering wheel is turned) from the power steering panel. The power steering motor it not suppose to run even whit the key switch on, if the steering wheel is not touch. I think there is a problem whit the power steering panel.

being that the steer motor keeps running even when the key is turned off makes me think there is something more going on here besides steering ring's.

When the key is turned off it should De-energise the line/power contactor or relay and disable all electronics, even the power steering. If there is no contactor that controls this then there must be a relay or pressure sensor controlling this somewhere on the truck.

All electric trucks i've dealt with have a contactor or relay that controls the trucks power. The truck should not do a thing without first activating this.
My guess is you have a stuck contact holding the power source 'ON' allowing the steering circuit to stay on.

I see the brass rings along with the brush's that contact it and all looks good. down a little lower there is a nylon fitting that also has contact's, this rocks back and forth with the turning of the wheel, again all looks good. I didn't do any continuity checks because I don't have any schematics.

The truck has electronic power steering. The steering should only be energized when you turn the wheel. There are 3 brass rings fitted the base of the steering column where 3 contacts ride which turns on the motor.
