I am having a problem with a toyota 7hbw23. The original problem was that the key pad would not power up (no light when buttons were pushed). I checked and found that the etac card was bad. When I put the new card in and plugged in the battery the display instantly says test. I have replaced many of these cards and never had this happen, and there is nothing in the manual about it. Has anyone ever seen this?

You need BT / Toyota TruckCom software + the correct firmware package for the truck OR order the correct card with the firmware already installed, you would then need a BT / Toyota CAN service key to change the default parameter settings.
You can always call BT / Toyota out to install the software & set the parameters but it will cost.
How does one go about installing the firmware on the card? I've got a card that went down with the same problem as the OP and hoping that reinstalling the firmware will correct it.
The new etac cards need to have the firmware put on them. They come from the factory blank now.
